Description
Valve’s Source engine is widely recognized as the most flexible, comprehensive, and powerful game development environment available.
Unusually for a game engine, Source does not have a meaningful version numbering scheme; instead, it is designed in constant incremental updates.Source combines leading-edge character animation, advanced AI, real-world physics, shade-based rendering, and a highly extensible development environment to produce some of the most popular computer and console games. In addition to it's leading visual capabilities, this engine has powerful and innovative audio components for an intense, immersive and realistic gaming experience. At its core, Source is designed with a modular, component-based architecture that enables the seamless integration of new features and technologies.

Source’s multi-player platform supports some of the world’s most played online games—including Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2.
Even now it has been announced that a new complete overhaul of the engine is in the works to improve on what is already one of the best gaming engines ever created.

Applications
Source can be used for many things in the future. There is of course the possibility for more video games, but not just the kind of video games we have now. With Source’s innovative ideas of how to present games and what they should be like, there is have a vast range of possibilities for what they could do next with the world of video gaming.

But aside from video games alone source could look into much bigger ideas. If source used the same thinking as they do now they could start making things like virtual training programs. With it's advanced environment rendering, powerful AI components, and realistic physics, it can be used for military training. Being able to create a very customized and realistic environment, it would create a safe an effective training simulation for many other positions outside of the military as well.
