Green Technology

Description
Green technology, also known as Environmental technology, or clean technology is the principle behind the methods and techniques to produce technologies without damaging or depleting natural resources. Green technology encompasses multiple goals, primarily to promote the sustainability of the planet and it's resources, creating technologies with materials that can be reused and recycled, reducing waste and pollution, developing alternative technologies to those that are more apt to harming the environment, the efficient use of energy and developing new means of generating energy.

Applications

Some green technologies that retain sustainable development are;

1. Wind Power
The wind, through wind farms - A wind farm is a group of wind turbines in the same location used for production of electric power. Individual turbines are interconnected with a medium voltage (usually 34.5 kV) power collection system and communications network. At a substation, this medium-voltage electrical current is increased in voltage with a transformer for connection to the high voltage transmission system. A large wind farm may consist of a few dozen to about 100 individual wind turbines, and cover an extended area of hundreds of square miles (square kilometers), but the land between the turbines may be used for agricultural or other purposes. A wind farm may be located off-shore to take advantage of strong winds blowing over the surface of an ocean or lake.

2. Solar Power
In this context, "solar energy" refers to energy that is collected from sunlight. Solar energy can be applied in many ways, including to:

3. Water power

Energy in water (in the form of kinetic energy, temperature differences or salinity gradients) can be harnessed and used. Since water is about 800 times denser than air,even a slow flowing stream of water, or moderate sea swell, can yield considerable amounts of energy.

4. Transportation

Green technology allows for reduced use of natural resources such as gasoline or diesel fuel; in the case of the hybrid car features such as extended MPG. The main goals as far as transportation are to work toward more efficient energy use and the conservation of the earth's natural resources as a whole. Conservation of energy is not the only goal however, materials used in making vehicles and equipment are also a large concern, some examples include a bicycle made of bamboo and also a wooden computer made by Dell.
