The Apple iPad: What Does It Do, and Why Would I Want One?

The Problem: Though the iPad is very unique in appearance, it comes up short on some hardware features. The iPad lacks a camera and also a USB port (sans adapters); The iPad, much like the iPhone, is completely locked down. The user doesn't have control over what he/she installs on the hardware. The reason for this high security is becuase of jailbreaking. Apple has become very powerful in restricting what installations could be updated to their hardware. Also, the iPad is very similar to a "real" computer. For example, if you dock it with a keyboard accessory, it's really a low powered laptop. Yet the user has no control over it.

Graphics:The Intel a4 1 ghz processor is responsible for all the graphics in the IPad. Many early predictions suggested a separate video card for graphics but the IPad lacks such video card, instead relying on the cpu for its graphical capabilities. Reasons for this could be for efficiency after all Apple claims up to 10 hours of video playback .The IPad boasts a 1024x728 resolution at 132 ppi. Also suprising to many people there is a large black bezel around the screen instead of having the screen closer to the borders. It has been suggested that the reason for the bezel is because many people put their thumbs around the edge which could interfere with the touch screen.
