Why do we need iOS 5?

The Mac brand is always trying to create better and better products. This is also true with iOS 5. Although iOS 4 had many exciting new features such as multitasking, it did have some drawbacks that made the demands for iOS 5 a main priority.
Problems with iOS 4:
Notification Vibrations while on a call
Disappearing folders
Blurry images
Camera app crashes
Keyboard shortcuts are glitchy on the iPad
Overall, every program so far has had problems but, Mac continues to try to create the perfect code.

New Features

Apple's iOS 5 includes over 200 new features that are compatible with the iphone, ipod touch, or ipad. Apple's Senior Vice President, Scott Forstall, is quoted in an iOS 5 promotion video saying, "We're constantly challenging ourselves to figure out how can we make the user's experience even easier...even more intuitive, while at the same time, adding more powerful functionality. And that's exactly what we've done with iOS 5." The new features seem as though they will provide convenience, efficiency, and functionality. Users are anxious to discover the benefits of these new features themselves! Until then, here are some highlights of what is to come:
Notification Center:With the iOS 5 software, users can access all of their notifications,

Notifications without Interruptions

whether it be emails, texts, friend requests, etc., all in the same location. New
notifications appear briefly at the top of the screen and users can choose to proceed to
the Notification Center or view the notification later without interrupting what they are
currently doing. There is also easy access to the Notification Center with one easy swipe
from the lock screen.
iMessage: iMessage is the new messaging service that offers unlimited text messages via Wi-Fi or 3G between people who use an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Users can send texts, pictures, videos, and locations and also have the capability to see when someone is typing a response.
Newstand: With the Newstand feature, all subscriptions are easily accessible in one location. Newstand makes accessing magazine and newspaper apps extremely convenient and even notifies users when a new issue arrives.
Reminders: This new feature keeps users organized by automatically updating information such as lists and calendars when changes have been made on iCal, Outlook, or iCloud. Users can also set reminders that are location based. In describing this new feature, Apple uses this example: "Say you need to remember to pick up milk during your next grocery trip. Since Reminders can be location based, you’ll get an alert as soon as you pull into the supermarket parking lot."
Camera: The updated camera is easily accessible from the lock screen and offers new features such as gridline, pinch-to-zoom, single tap focus, and exposure locks. Users can now use the volume up button to take their pictures and also have the option to have them automatically downloaded to their other devices.
Photos: Users now have the option to edit and organize their pictures all within the Photos app. Users can crop, rotate, enhance, and remove red eye all on their device.

Some of the features that make iOS 5 so innovative are the direct result of new developer API's. API's are segments of code written by the Apple coding teams to allow 3rd party developers such as app designers to utilize the hardware and software in a specific manner. Some unique applications can come from these new API's that Apple have released to all developers within their beta releases of the iOS 5 software. Perhaps one of the most attractive new applications that will derive from the new iOS 5 software will be the ability to use your iDevices and hardware wirelessly, i.e. not having to be at a computer to sync. They call this new application PC Free and it has been a long awaited aspect of iOS for a long time since there are many other competitors that have been doing it from day one. With this there will be the ability to do a host of new applications and features, one of the most prominent and new applications for the software is iCloud. Cloud services have existed for some while but have never been at the point they will be at with the release of the iOS 5 and iCloud services. With PC Free and iCloud we are taking one step even further into the realm of a dying breed of Desktops and Laptops.
